Pharmaceuticals Can Cause Harm
In the pharmaceutical industry,
manufactures prepare medicines to prevent or treat diseases. Many pharmaceutical
companies engage in research and development aimed at introducing new and
improved treatments. A few of the products pharmaceutical companies produced are
Celebrex, Vioxx, and Bextra. These products have been removed from the market
due to the increased risks of heart attacks, strokes, and even death.

Harmful Effects of Pharmaceuticals
Celebrex is prescribed for acute pain. It is
believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the effect of a natural
enzyme called COX-2. Celebrex has been known to cause kidney or liver problems,
particularly in people with an existing condition. Celebrex sometimes causes
water retention, which can aggravate swelling, high blood pressure, and heart
failure. Vioxx has also been linked to allergic reactions including swelling on
the face, lips, tongue, and throat which can cause difficulty in breathing and
swallowing. Vioxx increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients
using the medication. Bextra shares the same harmful side effects as Vioxx.
Bextra users have begun to develop a deadly disease known as Stevens Johnson
syndrome.
Pharmaceuticals Cases
As many as 140,000 injuries and 60,000 deaths in
the U.S. were caused by patients taking either Vioxx or Bextra. The deaths
occurred because of FDA failure to protect the public. Vioxx, Bextra, and
Celebrex were pulled from the market last fall because of major heart attack
risks. There have been more than 2,000 cases filed against the Whitehouse
Station, based on the drug maker so far. Analysts estimate that Merck's
potential liability could reach $18 billion.
Choosing the Right Attorney
The best way to determine if you are entitled to
compensation through a lawsuit for a pharmaceutical case is to contact an
experienced and knowledgeable attorney in the field of pharmaceutical
litigation. Most experienced and qualified pharmaceutical attorneys will provide
free consultation to discuss the facts of your case and determine whether or not
a claim should be filed. Your attorney can negotiate and guide you through the
legal process.
